You Couldn't Always Play Texas Hold 'Em in Texas

Since 2014, social clubs across the state have faced the risks and opened their doors. Thanks to their hard work, countless players and industry workers now call Texas home. And, in typical Texas fashion, things got a little wild.

Texas Poker Culture was created to showcase the action happening around Texas while bringing together clubs, creators, players, artists, vendors, and more—most of whom are small business owners. We are ALL-IN on growing the poker industry through education and responsible gaming.

How Do Poker Rooms Even Exist?

Poker rooms in Texas operate legally under specific statutes like Texas Penal Code §47.01-47.04, which allows private, social games where the house doesn’t profit directly from the game. Instead of taking a rake from the pot, these rooms charge membership fees and seat rentals, creating a thriving and lawful poker community. These social clubs blend competition with camaraderie, embodying the unique spirit of Texas poker.
